The Larder specialises in providing needs led learning opportunities for young people from S1 to S6, who are struggling in a mainstream education setting. This might be because of social and emotional difficulties, anxiety, learning difficulties, illness or family issues such as being a young carer or have care experiences.
We offer a nurturing environment and small groups that enable learners to feel secure and develop at their own pace. We take time to get to know our student’s individual needs, interests and hopes for the future, so that we can develop an individual plan with realistic and achievable goals.
We work closely with students to help develop their skills and confidence, all whilst gaining qualifications and provide one to one support where required.
We support transitions to the world of work for our senior phase students and can work with you to explore longer term work experience opportunities through our network of employers. These workshops can lead directly to a positive destination through our Employability Programme.
Overall, we provide an opportunity for your students to access a supportive and nurturing environment that enables them to reach their full potential, gain qualifications and develop their own planned career pathways.
This National Progression Award introduces learners to techniques that are important in professional cookery. It develops practical, technical and transferable skills in food preparation and cooking. It covers areas such as food hygiene, food preparation techniques, cookery processes and organisational skills.
The NPA in Professional Cookery at SCQF level 3,4 and 4 is suitable for those currently attending school, or for adult returners who have no formal qualification in catering and may lead to employment in hospitality or next steps to College.

This course is designed to enable learners to develop basic knowledge, understanding and technical skills required for the role of a barista. The unit covers how to operate specialist equipment to prepare and serve coffee and a variety of other drinks.

Candidates will develop skills and attitudes which will be applicable across all areas of employment. They will also have the opportunity to develop Core Skills and Personal Development
